Review Time
I am a former AWeber Advocate. I have worked with many companies over the last 10+ years and I have never been treated so badly. They say you can get "lifetime" recurring commissions. It really means temporary. They can cut you off whenever they want for whatever reason. Don't believe me? Just look it up in their terms. They put "lifetime" on their main pages, but hide that they can ban you whenever they want and for whatever reason they want inside their terms. They also specifically say you can place your link "anywhere". It sounds so good to lure affiliates in, but it turns out to be false advertising. They tell advocates to just follow their section 8 in the terms, which I went through carefully. I never violated their terms that I am aware of. I never sent a single spam email, never used PPC search engine traffic, never targeted their keywords, etc... Nothing black-hat at all. I sent quality traffic. I referred 35 trial signups in about a week or so. This seemed to be too much too fast for them and I received an email from Connor saying my Advocate account was on hold until he got more information about how I was promoting AWeber. I replied back fast. And then so did he. I gave him details and never heard back from him. I emailed a reminder to him and I patiently waited days and still nothing. Then I finally emailed support about it. They looked into it and I was told "Our Best Practices team has thoroughly reviewed the account and the review has resulted in the closure of your Advocate account. In order to protect the integrity of our network, we are not able to disclose information on the specifics of the review.". So they closed my account without even telling me it was closed and gave no reason at all! I never even asked for specifics. A simple reply back from Connor with a reason would have been the least they could do. Like "You violated X term in our advocate terms" or something like that. This is what AWeber calls "lifetime". It's a joke. This is the thanks I get for promoting them. I thought this would be a win-win relationship for both parties. I still do not know what I did wrong or how they could possibly not want me as an advocate. If you want to promote them and be banned at any time, choose AWeber.
Worst experience ever. Was permanently banned immediately after registration with no reason stated. I guess they ban people based on the IP address, or name or just their mood? I didn't even send any emails. The communication was rude and not informative. Luckily there are plenty of alternatives.
So I recently canceled my Aweber service because I migrated my business to an All-One marketing platform. So yes this is an ironic review. No fault of Aweber though. Just cost effective for me.Nonetheless I had requested a refund from Aweber for the last debit on my account and it was handled very professionally. The customer service is really top class
Aweber shut my account and I was not doing anything wrong. The thing is, I don't mind the fact that they shut down my account. They are a business and they are not required to work with everyone. What I mind is the ruthless, horrible way they dealt with it. I spent a whole month making the automation sequences with Aweber - emails with my heart and soul in them that were tied to a complex sales process. They just shut it off, and did not have the courtesy to allow me to login and simply copy my emails to move them to another service. I didn't have high spam complaints, was not doing anything illegal, and there was essentially no reason for it.Do not work with Aweber. They will cut you off and ruin your business and they do not care at all about it or about you. If you contact them after they cancel your account, they will look at your account and cut off the live chat. They are ruthless and evil in this regard.I understand the need to control email to some level, but not like this. What they did to me should be illegal because they have destroyed about 250 hours of my personal work, heart, and energy that I put into writing emails that work with my sales process. It is like they do not understand that there are little people like me who feed their families with customer communication through email.Again, all they had to do, was to warn me that I cannot send any more emails, and to give me a few days to login and copy my content so I do not have to create it all from scratch. It is not funny to do this to people. If you are a person who really cares about your customers and you need to feed your family with your email marketing, do not trust Aweber ever again after reading this. This didn't just hurt me and didn't just hurt my customers, this hurt my kids. Now that they have booted me I have been waiting all day for a simple response. When they sent me my broadcast emails and my contact data, they said I would have to contact their support via email to ask about the other emails. It is like they do not understand that these emails are tied to live sales processes on a website that has real paying customers, and now customers do not have communication and that money is paying people's bills and someone is depending on their service that they paid for to help give life to their business. Aweber does not care about that, and does not care about you at all. They do not care about their customers. Which, obviously, they do not care about their brand because you better believe that the world will hear about this. If I have to recreate all of that material than I will also take time to make sure other people know, and they cancel their aweber account and move somewhere else where they are cared about and taken care of by people who care about their customers lives.Laws should be passed preventing companies from deleting your content like this. It was the most unethical way I have ever been treated by an email company in all my years of marketing online. Stay away and do not recommend this company.
I've WAS an Aweber customer for about a decade and now am NOT.I decided to close my account and switch because Aweber's monthly fees get pretty steep as your list grows. But what gets them a mere two stars from me is what happened after I told two customer service reps (Amanda and Chris) to close the account and clicked "cancel plan" in the dashboard...THEY KEPT TAKING MY MONEY. I confirmed on July 7th that I didn't want the account anymore and they took FOUR MORE payments out of my Paypal account over the next two months. I emailed them repeatedly telling them I didn't want the service anymore until I had Paypal block their autopayments. They ignored me for a while but finally responded, eventually Jo there offered me an apology and confirmed that they had made a mistake not canceling my account. But they refused to fully refund me the payments they took without my permission for a service I didn't want and hadn't used in months.Fortunately, Paypal's dispute department (which can be hard to please) got me the money back as I provided them with all email threads confirming my side of the story. It's wild to me that a company, because of greed and incompetence, would insist on screwing a +10-year customer when doing the right thing would have been so easy. They get two stars because...It's a very robust email platform with a ton of features for managing email optins and sending a newsletter to subscribers.A few times I've had to contact customer service and they were very professional.But...I DO NOT recommend signing up for autopayments, as they may just keep trying to take your money. Also, if you don't pay your AWeber bill for a month they hold your list hostage until you pay. So just export and backup your list with some regularity.
These guys are banning everyone. Imagine you have a small marketing agency, and one of your clients gets suspended for literally just suspicion of buying leads. There is no chance you will get unbanned, you will wait weeks to get a reply and all your other clients will be banned too (why? I have no idea). Your IP will be banned as well. I guess they would ban my dog either. Cool email builder idea, very bad TOS, poor deliverability. Unhuman support.
I have dealt with Aweber in the past but not like this recent experience. I entered my subscribers into my aweber account and they started getting suspicious. They claimed that I bought leads from a vender. That never happened, nor did I reply that any leads were bought at any time. Instead of asking or resolving the issue properly, they closed my account the morning after paying for my account. I then asked for a refund and they refused. The ignorance and unprofessionalism is un tolerable. They closed my account for life simply for assuming that I bought leads. I am disputing the charge to my account after they have my money and my contacts. That's very rude.
