This nothing but a trial membership scam. They know statically a percentage of the people will forget or be unable to cancel their membership allowing them to steal $70. There are people in our world that make their living through exploits and scams and these are those people.
Never been one for meditation but I do like to listen to audio books in bed as they help me drift off to sleep (I set a timer). I came across this App during the UK’s 3rd lockdown and I thought I'd give meditation a try and also test out the bedtime stories. I'm doing a lot of solo walking because of Covid lockdown so thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give meditation another try. I'm afraid either meditation is still not for me or the narrators voice grated to the point I became irritated - is it Tamara? I have listened to two of the Apps bedtime stories and while they are 'okay', I find my audio books provide the same rhythm/tone and help me drift off. All in all I felt paying for this App wasn’t worth it for me as I wouldn’t be using it very often, however, if you do like to mediate and you don’t already use audio books then this App would be good value for money.Regarding cancelling the free 7 day trial period. I received an email reminding me my free trial subscription was coming to an end on day 4 and I was also informed I needed to cancel 24 hours before the free trials end (so really you are only getting 6 days free trial). Fearing I’d forget and get caught out I cancelled straightaway. Unlike other reviewers I was able to cancel my free trial subscription with just a couple of clicks on my iPhone. I went to the settings within the App, clicked on subscription and there was the cancel subscription option. After pressing cancel subscription I received a pop up message informing me my subscription was cancelled and that I had until the end of the 7 day trial period to continue using the App for free before it would stop (I screen grabbed this) – easy!!!
This company has funny ways of stealing your money. Their "renewal" don't allow you to cancel, even if you are not satisfied with the service. ...They don't let you know in advance via email, the intentions of renewing. An unnecessary expensive ripoff. NOT RECOMMENDED...
This is the most infuriating company!!!Got sucked into their 7 day trial period, I tried every way I could to find a way to cancel subscription without any luck. They have billed me $10.99 each month for the past 6 months. They do not publish customer service contact information. What a racket!
I used Calm for about a year via a free one year subscription through my HMO. I use it primarily for the sleep stories, which I find very soothing depending on the narrator. They could update the content more frequently and work with some of the narrators on improving their delivery. A few voices are a bit less soothing and some simply read too fast.As for the meditations, I think they are good for beginners but experienced practitioners will find the content to be limited. Also, they would do well to have more variety for instructors. I find Tamara Levitt's voice to be distracting and her delivery can be a bit condescending, just my experience. I particularly like Shinzen Young, but unfortunately he only has one meditation on Calm. Calm would improve greatly if they listened to the feedback about improving the content to have more for experienced meditators and have more content by teachers/instructors that people like. I'm Ms. Levitt is a nice person and knows about meditation but her voice and style are not helpful.
I was having trouble sleeping so downloaded the app on a free trial thinking I'd take a look and cancel as the annual fee was £42.99!!Days passed, I didn't look at the app again and I missed the reminder email that the weeks free trial had now lapsed. I then received an email receipt from Google for the £42.99 which they had taken on the dot. I am kicking myself as it's money I can ill afford at the moment! The receipt states I have the statutory right to a refund within 14 days. Well you just try claiming this back from Google! I have sent approx 15 emails to them asking for a refund only to be told my request 'doesnt meet their policy'. I'm absolutely disgusted with Google play and despite obviously being aware I should have been more vigilant, feel completely taken advantage of. I have emailed the company producing the app 'Hinge' who refer you back to Google play. I have also cancelled the subscription straight away which only means I won't be charged again next year! What a complete rip off and I'm sure quite illegal way of deceiving people out of money. I don't know what to do next but feel I have to put this down to experience regrettably.
