Took out the free trial as I often listen to Blue Gold read by Stephen Fry which is generally available on the internet. As I knew it was also on Calm I thought I’d give the site a try to help me with my poor sleep. I found the whole experience not particularly helpful, the site difficult to navigate and read as I have a visual impairment and the menus were small and white writing on pale blue background - particularly hard in the middle of the night. All the meditations also appeared in different categories so there wasn’t that much choice, and they were pretty much all the same breathing techniques. Nothing new here and not really meditations. Really disappointed so I terminated my membership before having to pay. PS with a bit of searching I can find better things on youTube which help me sleep.
It's focused way more on selling you the app than on teaching meditation. I personally find the app to be a little scummy. It doesn't feel like they want you to feel better or to teach you meditation. Everything has a scent of fake'ness there. I have had much better meditation sits just by listening some guided meditation on youtube, which is free by the way.
Not very calming, puts me on edge. Too glitzy and overproduced. It has lost the soft, earthiness of having a friendly voice in the room with you. Feels like I am trapped inside an elevator with the same music being played over and over again on loop. There are plenty of better, lower cost apps out there that might not have the publicity of Calm but are designed for you not Hollywood.
Trying to use app for meditations. Daily meditations are good but there is one thing that makes me struggle with these meditations: narrator interrupts you while you are meditating. Instead of giving narration and then leave you to meditate narrator speaks constantly and it’s not clear what to do: should I focus on meditation? Should I listen to him? This constant interruption is so annoying that instead of calming the effect is the opposite.
I was loving this app when I started using it two years ago. It helped me to deal with a great deal of stress and improved my sleeping.THEN they removed the only narrator that I could listen to. John Armstrong was removed from the app! Why? I'm sure Tamara Levitt is a lovely person, but she is nails on a chalkboard to listen to! She is the absolute worst, and I end up more annoyed and stressed when trying to meditate to her sessions! I had to cancel my subscription. Such a pity.
