I owned a Samsung cellphone for over 15+ years. I can't remember when, or if, I 'd any other brand. I've purchased both locked & unlocked phones so I know how both work & activated my own once I learned how. It's very simple, actually. I recently bought a S24+ directly from Samsung. I thought doing so would avoid the problems I'd read about other people having. I chose the unlocked phone in case I ever decide to switch carriers, though I don't see that happening. I read everything on both that and the one locked with my carrier, and there was no difference. I work hard for my money like we all do, and so ofcourse I'm going to cross my T's and dot my I's. After I got the phone and went to set it up, it said to choose my carrier, but the only one listed was T-Mobile, which isn't. It said if my carrier wasn't there, I'd have to contact my carrier and have them activate it. If you've been around phones any you know that means its a locked phone. I called customer service and the person I spoke with wasn't anywhere close to being helpful or cared if she was or wasn't. She said in a manner that was more like an order that "you HAVE to contact your carrier." I explained my experience and background, thinking maybe I hadn't been clear, but she wouldn't listen and said again I'd to contact my carrier. She started asking about my transferring my data to it, and I told her I hadn't yet because if there were an issue, I didn't want any problems returning it, and she didn't like that. She was ignorant and I ended up hanging up because I wasn't going to sit there and listen to someone talking to me like that. When I went through the steps to return it, the person offered $45 credit for my next purchase. No, thank you. I want to return it. How about $45 credit and I keep the phone? No, thank you. I want to return it. How about $45 refund? No, thank you. I want to return it. How about if I give you the refund and you keep the phone? No, thank you. I want to return it. Well how about if I give you the refund and you keep the phone? Would that work for you? I'm not kidding. That's how it went. I ended hanging up because she wouldn't complete the return, but I got it via email minutes after I hung up. First thing I did after leaving work less than a hour later was to drop it off at FedEx. I will never deal with Samsung again. Not when they play games like this
