I complained about a solicitor who purchased my data then distributed it to third parties and started suing an insurance company without my knowledge or consent. The Information Commissioner thoroughly investigated and provided a detailed opinion taking extracts from various correspondence to support their opinion.I did not agree in full with their opinion so it has gone to the internal review process. I have been kept up to date throughout. The case handler who looked at my complaint took the time to explain his reasoning for reaching his opinion and was knowledgeable about data protection. He also provided some practical advice regarding other actions that I can take in relation to the problems I am suffering as a consequence of the solicitors actions. This process has taken a while but I am satisfied with the level of detail they have gone into. Sadly, both the Solicitor's Regulation Authority and the Legal Ombudsman have disagreed with the Information Commissioner's opinion without providing any reasoning.
