ICO warns against scammers trying to get businesses to pay this fee yet the ICO themselves come across as a scam. Binned previous letter as seemed just that. Turns out it's a legal government backed scam however. Why on earth should businesses need to pay a fee for this? I'm well aware of laws around data protection etc but no idea what paying this fee is all about. My business is exempt but still disgusted by this nonsense. Annoying to receive this as I just recently learned of a relative injured in hospital as a victim of a crime and their full name was released without permission by the police to the press who then put it in print/online for the entire country to see. I mean how does that even happen given all this data protection stuff now, including this fee?
