The order is always placed to the restaurant and they start cooking before a driver is even assigned. I've had so many times where food is local and supposed to be less than 20mins delivery, be an hour late and cold. I tried to cancel my order because it took 40mins and no driver still assigned and they said I can get the delivery fee refunded ($2) but the $40 I spent on the food stays with the shop. Door dash should cover that!
