I don’t usually leave reviews, but this experience with Capital One is so outrageous that I have to warn others. I’ve been a customer for nearly 20 years, managing 4 business cards and 2 personal ones, spending millions with them and never missing a payment. In December 2024, Bench.co, an accounting service, shut down abruptly, leaving thousands of us in the lurch. Employer.com took over and refused to honor our paid-in-full contract. We closed our account as soon as we regained access in January 2025. Then, in February, a $7,000 charge from this mess appeared on my Capital One card. We got no response from Employer.com, so we disputed the charge with Capital One. Less than 10 days later, they ruled against us. That pushed my card over the limit and dropped my credit score by 25 points. When I called, they said Bench claimed they’d credit the card, so Capital One reinstated the charge—sending it over the limit again. This isn’t the first time they’ve failed to protect me from fraudulent charges. After two decades of loyalty, this is unacceptable. There are better banks out there—stay away from Capital One.
