Automatically opted in to marketing material

Today after being a customer for multiple years I learned that Amex had automatically opted me in by default to intensive marketing material and marketing personalisation. I would never opt in to this by default and it's a dark pattern to be opted in automatically. Amex needs to be more customer centric if they want to be relevant.
