I have been an American Express cardholder since 2008, holding the Centurion Card internationally. After years of loyalty, in November 2024, Amex decided to cancel the international Centurion program. Despite my long history of high spending and impeccable payments, they disregarded my customer value entirely. Given that I am a permanent resident of the U.S. with an SSN, they could have simply issued me a new Centurion under my U.S. profile. Instead, they sent me a Platinum Card—which I have had for only two months and has been nothing but a nightmare. The card is constantly declined, and every time I call customer service, I waste hours on the phone only to be given a different excuse. They fix it temporarily, but a week later, the same problem happens again. On top of that, they refunded me $1,600 for the unused portion of my Centurion annual fee to the canceled card! So not only did they cancel my Centurion, but they also left me with a card that had a positive balance, making it impossible to access my own money. This is an absolute disgrace and a blatant lack of respect for a long-standing, loyal customer. American Express used to be a premium brand, but their service and reliability have deteriorated beyond belief. If you are considering getting an Amex, do yourself a favor and stay away.
