I booked with Agoda which turned out to be extremely unsatisfactory, so I requested a refund and to be checked out. The front desk did not understand me on account on the language barrier so I was sure Agoda would definitely help. I was very much wrong. Not only were they of little help, the agent really didn't even seem to care. The property was a obvious front/scam and all Agoda could do was NEGOTATE my refund from the hotel. They themselves could not do anything. This is when I realised Agoda has zero safety nets in place if a hotel scams you, because according to them they are not liable for anything after the booking including the safety or even the accuracy of the properties on their site.
