My grandma was about 2.5 hours from home this weekend with my 4 kids and I when our tire blew. We called AAA to help us, it was Sunday and our car did not come with a spare. Since we had 6 people on our car we couldn't get a tow anywhere. We had decided on getting the tire off and to a Walmart so I could buy a new tire and then returning and putting it back on. That was at 5:00 PM Sunday April 21st. My husband decided that he would drive to us when the first two truck called and said they couldn't find us. Turns out that even with GPS location and a fairly specific description of where we were (highway x between town y and z, eastbound approximately 30 miles from town z), they had entered our location wrong and the tow truck was approximately 80 miles away. So the tow company told us they would cancel the call and to call AAA back. I called my husband, who then said he would come because he was pretty sure they wouldn't be able to get to us in time, so he started the 2.5 hour drive to us. I called AAA and moved my car up about .5 miles to see the exit sign. I explained they had our location wrong and that it was now 545 PM and the service center would close at 7. My new location position was sent by GPS link plus my description of highway x between town y and z, approximately 30 miles from town z beside exit xyz. They said they'd put a rush on it and let us know. We waited 2 hours. It was 7:15, no hope of getting the tire fixed now, I called AAA once again and they didn't even have a open claim for us! At this time they decided to set up an unattended tow and have me leave my keys with the car, they were still planning to tow it to a Walmart and since my husband was coming to take us and my 4 kids home we told them that wouldn't work anymore. They asked where the best place to tow it was and we told them to our home shop so they could fix the tire. Problem is it is 137 miles from where we broke down so we were going to be responsible for about $260 to get it home. So not only are paying to get us home and for a tire (which we were planning for anyway) we have the added bill because AAA screwed up twice! They had to call back 3 times to verify the location of the car, as they STILL had the wrong location on it, and the best part is that my car is STILL sitting on the side of the road unattended with the keys in it! They still have not towed it anywhere, they don't even have a tow truck lined up, and I don't even know if it is still there as I'm 2.5 hours away! Almost 24 hours later, nothing has been done, we're going to be out good chunk of money, and if we hadn't had another car we would still be sitting on the side of the road with 4 kids and nothing to eat or drink for 24 hours. I am very unsatisfied and will let everyone I know of this terrible experience as we have been told several times there is "nothing they can do" to help with any of this. Why would anyone pay for a service like this? This is my wife's post. When you pay for a service you expect result in a timely manner. I'm glad I got there to pick them up at 9pm wish it was sooner by this time it was already dark. They finally picked up the van this afternoon but ended up costing us $300 to pay for the milage they cover under "policy". Very displeased with this type of service. I give AAA an F for this transaction not only did your associates fail to provide service not once, but 2 times. I will be calling the corporate office to pull the phone records and to attempt to reimburse our tow fee. Never would of got this fare if service was provided the first call that was made.
