AAA refuses to reimburse for a legitimate tow request

Back in April, I was with a friend whose car was vandalized and needed a tow. She didn't have AAA, but I did. I had AAA because I was under the impression it was convenient and you could use it on any car if you were present. I called the AAA rep who immediately didn't want to dispatch a tow. She asked if we could get the car in neutral and I said I didn't know. She said if I couldn't confirm that, I would have to pay for the tow upfront and then AAA would reimburse me later. Well wouldn't you know, the tow driver AAA said to use on the call and I paid out of pocket WAS able to get it into neutral but when I called back, they said they couldn't do anything. I tried to submit for reimbursement as she said to do, but what she didn't say is I would have to not only send them the reimbursement form and the receipt but a letter from my friend's insurance company verifying she didn't get reimbursed for the tow from them! I shouldn't have to jump through hoops for what my membership should have covered. At this point, I bailed. It just so happened my AAA renewal was due at this time and it just so happened I decided I would use the $200 I paid for the towing to NOT renew my AAA. After all, if AAA doesn't do what they say, why should I keep it? Never again.
