VRBO doesn't refund for hurricanes or medical emergencies

We had booked an VRBO for New Orleans from 11-16 Sep 2024. I sent an email 2 days before because some of our family members flights were canceled due to Hurricane Francine forecasts showing it was supposed to hit the same time we were supposed to check in. My husband also came down with a bad case of Covid. I know the house is w/o power for the past 2 days as I have a brother that lives down there. However, we were told we couldn't get our money back. From now on we just plan on booking hotel rooms since I know that they will allow cancellations up to 24 hours before.
