Venmo is an incompetent company. My sister accidentally sent me 100 dollars to an old account that I did not even know was still active and I didn’t have access to anymore because it was linked to an old email address. After weeks of back and forth trying to explain the problem to every new customer service rep, I called with someone who said that they put in a request to change my old account’s email address to my current one. After two weeks I didn’t hear anything so I called back. It turns out that instead of doing that, they had sent an email to my old email address asking whether I wanted to cancel the account and since I did not respond they cancelled my account and all the money was lost. They said the money was no longer in venmo’s system, and if I wanted it back I would have to contact the state department to request it back from them…
