A sad day

After a lifetime of reading the Daily Telegraph and having held a paper subscription for nearly as long as they existed, we have cancelled our subscription. Even with the 'reduced' subscription, it now amounts to just under £1,000 a year. Unbelievable. When I rang to cancel my subscription, well before our quarterly direct debit was due to go out, I discovered that the payments are in arrears and so was not able to at least avoid the last price hike! A second date was given to call back to cancel........very contrived. We had intended to take out a digital subscription but was told that we could not benefit from any digital offers as we had previously had a paper subscription and it had to be in another name. Excellent marketing decision which just enforced our feeling that subscribers are not valued in any way and just used as a revenue source, how is it acceptable to just loose customers? Thankfully, this then meant that I checked out the digital subscription reviews on Trustpilot and have avoided getting into the trap of an unsatisfactory digital subscription. We will continue to buy the odd paper copy for the moment and see how long the paper continues to survive. We asked for a confirmation email of our cancellation and have not yet received anything.
