I always check the ratings of a movie or box set here before deciding whether to watch it or not, and given the huge number of voters the ratings are very reliable. Even better is that you can filter for ratings only from your gender and age group (I only wish it were possible to set that as the default rating that I always see for everything). It's also useful to see what else certain actors have been in, and going through their top lists to compile a watch list.Regarding the typical ratings, I have noticed that documentaries and box sets seem to have higher average ratings than movies do, which I factor into my decisions on choosing what to watch.
