IHG will not refund your deposit, which is pre payment in full in the event of cancellation or modification. This policy applies even if you pay extra for a cancellable reservation! They simply keep your money and refuse to refund it. This outrageous policy is deceptive as the customer believes they have purchased a flexible reservation. Life happens, IHG won't accommodate you.
