I am currently wide awake at 12.30 am in the Hilton Strand Helsinki, due to the pounding beat from a convention party being held downstairs. When I rang down to reception to raise my concerns, I was informed that the party is due to carry on until at least 1.30 am and that there is "nothing they can do". Even though their very own 'Quiet Policy' states that, if I were to watch my TV at too high a volume, slam my door or talk loudly in the corridor, I could expect a call to reception from a fellow guest and a visit from the powers that be to tell me to be quiet. These rules clearly do not apply to large convention bookings, where presumably the amount of money Hilton makes from them vastly outweighs the inconvenience of loyal, Hilton Honours members such as myself. To add insult to injury, I was offered a free stay in a Hilton Hotel to make up for the shocking treatment I have received in the current one. Like I would even consider subjecting myself to this level of atrocious service again. So, unless you are part of a convention planning on partying the night away at everyone else's expense, think again before staying at a Hilton Hotel.
