MY EXPERIENCE WITH DOMESTIKA

MY EXPERIENCE WITH DOMESTIKA: THIS IS A SCAMI bought a single course on Domestika as a gift for my friend — it cost just €12. I never subscribed to anything else. I just wanted to buy a small present — that’s it.But apparently, during the purchase, Domestika quietly added a free trial of their premium membership. I never asked for it. I DID NOT wanted it. It was presented like a “bonus” — not something that would automatically turn into a $169.99 charge later.About six weeks after buying the gift, I randomly noticed a $169.99 charge on my card.No warning. No confirmation. No email about it.I was completely shocked.I went back to check my inbox, looking for any sign of a warning. There was one email titled: “Final days to enjoy your free trial—don’t miss out!”Absolutely nothing about payment in the subject.Only a small line at the very bottom, in grey text, said they would charge me $169.99.That is a textbook «dark pattern».I didn’t give explicit consent. I didn’t use the premium features. And I never saw a single clear message that I was about to be charged. And you know what? Domestika violated multiple consumer protection laws, including:Georgian Law on Consumer Protection (2022) (It's where I'm living now):Article 9(3): charging without separate consent is illegalArticle 12(2): no visible payment warning = violationArticles 24–26: misleading design / hidden info = unfair practiceEU Directive 2011/83/EU on Consumer Rights:Article 8: payment is invalid without clear, express consent.Visa / Mastercard Rules (Section 5.9.7).Businesses must notify users before charging for renewals.Let's do something with this absolutely awful company?!
