Booking.com is going down hill

What's going on with Booking.com - it is going down hill!! I have been using it for years but on a recent reservation, which was cancellable and where payment was due to be made at the property, when changed the dates Booking.com charged my card with NO notification to me. This sudden card charge, to a card I had not intended to use for this, cost me £200 with exchange rate fees. Then Booking.com did not respond to my customer service complaint. When I called they told me there had been an email to me when I originally made the booking an in that email somewhere it said that if I modify the booking then my card will be charged in full.
