I no longer buy books at Barnes and Noble. However, I do buy periodicals and have coffee there. First, the books are 1) trendy nonsense or 2) boring coffee table picture books. When I go look for a real book, it is unavailable and I go home and order it from Amazon. Otherwise, I go to the periodical display and buy magazines with cash so B&N can‘t sell my information to the magazine subscription services before I get home. Yes, I bought a Texas Monthly once on a credit card and was contacted by phone in the car on my way home to subscribe to TM. Coincidence? I think not. The Starbucks is usually OK. All in all, going to Barns and Noble is not the kind of shopping experience I remember — when I took my sons there to encourage their reading opportunities and expand their interests.
