I have the Amex blue cash everyday card. They offer cash back on every purchase but mostly only 1% and even though they claim to offer 3% cash back on online purchases, they have such a strict criteria for how that retailer has to categorize themselves on the back end that it means pretty much only Amazon qualifies. I find it very dishonest. And when I contacted customer service, they verified that all US online retailers should qualify but none of my purchases did because those retailers didn't categorize themselves specifically enough on the back end with their tax ID or some other such nonsense that isn't even visible to consumers. I would steer clear of Amex entirely because such a dishonest policy is just bad business. I don't feel I can trust American Express now for anything. If you offer 3% for all US online retailers then it should be for all US online retailers, regardless of how that online US retailer chooses to categorize their US based online retail business on the back end for credit card companies to see. This shouldn't be that difficult. And it isn't. It's just that American Express found a way to make a nice sounding promise to potential customers and then deny it in the fine print. Shady, shady business. Shame on Amex.
